Thinking in Systems by Donella Meadows is not the newest or greatest in the area but it will definitely stir the soul of any quality professional.
For a professional supposedly driven by data we are awful in utilizing it to tell a story. Data Story: Explain Data and Inspire Action through Story by Nancy Duarte is a great book to change that.
The book that started my profession. Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle is still a must-read. There are other runners-up in this category, such as Katherine Eban’s Bottle of Lies, that I strongly recommend. But if Sinclair doesn’t stir the soul for why our profession is critical, nothing will.
