Great post by Steven Shorrock on how over-commercialism is a threat to the work of a safety professional. The post applies to our quality work, for example, take every example he gives and apply it to “Computer System Assurance.”

Hear Me Out – Oompa Loompas as Part of Inspection/Audit Management
As you do, I’m in the midst of a lot of audit prep, and to be quite frank, I can use a bit of cheering up. This is why I’m proposing hiring a band of oompa loompas to accompany the auditor/inspector and come up with amazing songs whenever something new comes up.
I’ll also accept a gothic-styled take on a Greek chorus.
Relationships with Stakeholders
Sometimes I feel a bit like Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog.
But most of the time I feel like I’m bonding with my fellow communards. With hopefully a happier ending.
Prioritize Mental Health
As the weather thaws, so too is my brain. I’ll be honest, it has been a bad six months for me, and one can tell by my lack of postings and all the other balls I’ve managed to drop in professional circles. It should be no surprise that we are in the midst of a post-pandemic mental health crisis with the rise of serious mental health issues being through the roof with reports of severe depression and anxiety making a steep climb in the last few years. And unfortunately, these numbers suffer from a great deal of under reporting. The Center for Disease Reporting shows the rate of suicide in the US at record highs not seen since the 1940s. Chances are multiple people in your circles are grappling with mental health.
I’m in a better place. I’ve got help, I am working on my relationships, I’ve changed jobs for better balance. I’ve got a lot still to do, but I’m going in the right direction.
If you are dealing with mental health issues, please get help. And if you need someone to talk to who is still doing a lot of work, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Veeva Summit -2023
Supplier technology conferences are a different beast from more professionally orientated events. You approach them very differently in that at a single vendor conference in that you are very focused on two things:
- Getting your views heard to influence design
- Learning new uses of the tech and the upcoming roadmap
Even the hallway track is different. While you still have fascinating chats with colleagues of yore and are meeting new individuals to learn and share with; the overall tenor is very different. How are you using the tech, how are you overcoming issues, what are you doing differently.

This week was the Veeva Summit, so it is no surprise that I feel slightly tired from the whirlwind. I presented on Process Management within Quality Vault utilizing Process Navigator, a fascination of mine and something I think organizations need to be way more deliberate about in their quality systems.
